New Banksy Work in London – Child Labour in the UK

A new Banksy piece has appeared on the side of Poundland, Whymark Avenue, London. The stencil depicts a child hard at work sewing some Union Jack bunting, of course another statement on child labour.

Banksy & David Bowie

If you’re in the UK you can’t have failed to notice news coverage of genius street artist Banksy‘s latest creation.

The enigmatic Bristolian chose his home town as the venue for this latest artwork, where the image of the Queen of England sporting the Aladdin Sane flash proudly looks down from a first-floor vantage point.

The controversial artist chose to include Liz in the nationwide celebration of Ziggy’s 40th by Ziggy-fying her in the manner we suggested on this page just over a week ago. ZIGGY-FY YOURSELF, YOUR FRIEND, PET OR FAMILY MEMBER…

Though the artwork has yet to be confirmed by Banksy, nobody wants to hear that it may have been done by an impostor. So we think Banksy should claim it as his own either way.

EMI release ZS40 worldwide on June 4th and in North America on June 5th. Stay tuned for related contests and some Heddon Street fun on the actual anniversary of the original June 6th, 1972, release.

Banksy : Wall My Presidents

Banksy : The Bristol Legacy

One of the contributors in the book talks about putting plate glass over this artwork, of listing it, of making sure it’s preserved, which flies in the face of what street art is, which is meant to be radical, temporary, interventionist, not something permanent. That’s quite an interesting challenge and I think the City of Bristol is starting to wrestle with that one.
