Seattle artist and science illustrator Marlin Peterson was recently commissioned by the Washington State Artist Trust to paint a mural somewhere in the city. After searching unsuccessfully for a suitably large wall, Peterson got the idea to look for a large roof, and where would a painting on a roof be more visiable than right underneath the Seattle Space Needle. An agreement was reached with the Seattle Center Armory (formerly the Center House) and he quickly began work on two daddy long-leg arachnida using a technique called trompe l’oeil that creates the illusion when seen from above that giganto arachnids are actually overtaking the building. You can see many more photos and an explanation of his process over on Peterson’s website.

The making of a stencil painting.
I have been stenciling since 2003 and I thought it was about time I gave people a little insight into how I work. Cutting stencils isn’t a spectacle, it’s done in solitude and so I think a lot of my friends, artist or not, will find this interesting.
The painting featured in the video is titled ‘And I’m Not Going To Take This Anymore’. Photos and more details about the piece can be found at pahnl.co.uk/store/anymore.php
A more affordable screen print of this piece will be available soon and if you want to be the first to know of it’s release, you can sign up to the carrier pigeon list at pahnl.co.uk/contact.php

The dog wanted that bone, it wanted it more than anything else.
Oblivious to his surroundings, he continued to chase after the bone, pounding the ground with each paw.
Relentless, hungry and hopeful, the dog was happy.
I’m very happy to present the ‘Chasing Bones’ Plastic Pup, crafted by hand from start to finish, available for preorder. At just under 4″ tall, the dog has fancy magnetic feet and a tasty bone swinging on, like, real string! The model is cast from the eighth and final dog in a line of sculpted prototypes. I knew nothing about urban vinyl or mould making when I first started out and so it was a laborious journey to get here.
Each of these pups are cast and painted by hand, produced to the highest of standards and enclosed within a robust display case, which I‘ve also made myself… no unimaginative paperboard boxes here! Although I like to have my plastic pup wander free from the case and sit on the desk, reminding me life is a challenge and you need to keep chasing the things that you’re oh so hungry for.
Great stuff from Pahnl.co.uk!!!
